Does it matter what dentist I choose for cosmetic dentistry?

Yes!  Not all dentists are equally qualified to provide cosmetic dentistry.  Many general dentists who call themselves cosmetic dentists do not have the training or experience to provide the level of care that their patients deserve.  If you are considering aesthetic dental care, you should be looking for an experienced dentist who is certified by an accredited dental organization (such as the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry).  If you live in Manhattan, White Plains, or anywhere in Westchester County and are considering cosmetic dentistry, you can find this level of treatment at IllustraDENT.

How do I know if I’m a candidate for implant dentistry?

To be a candidate for implant dentistry, you must have sufficient gum tissue and jaw bone to support the implants.  Patients should be comfortable with the placement process, recovery, and aftercare required.  Persons who have immune system deficiencies, a history of periodontal disease or oral radiation therapy, or a habit of drug use or heavy smoking may not be suitable candidates.

How long do dental implants last?

Implants can last a lifetime with proper upkeep.  To keep the gums and implant site healthy, patients must have regular professional cleanings and attend regular follow-up visits at our offices in Manhattan, White Plains & Westchester County, or Miami and South Miami, Florida. Implant dentistry also requires that a patient practice careful dental hygiene at home to keep the teeth and gums healthy.

If implant dentistry is the best way to replace a tooth, why do dentists still provide tooth-supported bridges, dentures, and crowns?

Although dental implants are often the ideal tooth-replacement option, they are not appropriate for everyone.  Patients with certain oral conditions may benefit more from a tooth-supported porcelain bridge or denture, or your experienced dentist will determine which is the best treatment for you.
