Root Canal Therapy

At IllustraDENT’s offices in Manhattan and White Plains & Westchester County, we provide root canal therapy while keeping our patients' comfort a top priority. We take a gentle approach, and work to reduce patient discomfort throughout this important tooth-saving procedure. Root canal therapy is an excellent option for teeth whose pulp – the soft tissue inside the tooth’s root canal – is badly decayed.  Root canal therapy extends the life of a tooth, that might have otherwise had to be extracted, by removing diseased pulp and replacing it with a strong dental material.  After root canal therapy, patients can rest assured that their tooth has been restored from the inside out. 

Root Canal Therapy Procedure

To begin root canal therapy, the dentist will create a small hole in the surface of the tooth to access the root canal.  The dentist will then carefully remove the diseased pulp and thoroughly clean and disinfect the canal.  Next, the dentist will fill the canal with dental cement.  Finally, the dentist will cover the tooth with either a temporary crown (in which case the patient returns to our office in about a week to have the permanent porcelain crown placed) or a single-visit CEREC® crown.  The final result is a restoration that is both durable and attractive.

Periodontal / Gum Treatment by Dental Specialist
